After the Partition of India, he arrived in Bombay as a refugee with nothing but a name and a relentless drive to rebuild. That name, “Edna,” remained officially registered in independent India and became the foundation upon which a pioneering business was born. In the years that followed, he built a reputation for quality and innovation in personal care; launching products like perfumes, eyeliners, mascara, and inventing the world’s first conical “Kajal Stick”, a design that has now become iconic around the globe.
The second generation, led by Ajit Singh Gandhi, carried this spirit forward through the 1970s and beyond — expanding capabilities and introducing new innovations like a water-soluble gel-based roll-on perfume, designed for unmatched stability and performance in any climate. With the turn of the century came a new vision. In 2001, Punit Singh Gandhi established Grace Universal as a forward-looking company focused on international markets and private label manufacturing — bringing decades of heritage to the world stage. “Edna” continued as our beloved domestic brand under the Grace Universal umbrella.
